Profile Information
Yakisugi is an ancient Japanese method of wood preserving. Often referred to as 'Burnt or Charred' timber cladding, by slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, the wood becomes water-proof through the carbonisation and is thus more durable. It also protects against insects, as well as making it fire retardant and an exciting trending design

The art of Yakisugi is an ancient Japanese method of wood preserving. Referred to as 'Burnt or Charred' timber cladding, by slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, the wood becomes water-proof through the carbonisation and is more durable. It also protects against insects, as well as making it fire retardant and an exciting trendy design optionA light charred finish gives a uniform light brown colour with natural definition round the grain from the 'burning' process. Without of a wire brushing the finish is left flat and smooth.
