Thermo-Nordic Pine

Thermally modified Thermo Scandinavian pine with enhanced durability and stability — no chemicals, a rich caramel-brown tone, machined at our North Yorkshire mill.

Modern wooden house with tall glass windows and sliding doors, vertical timber cladding and a sloped roof, beside a paved patio and green hedges.

Thermo-Nordic Pine

Thermo-Nordic Pine (Thermo Pine) is thermally modified Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), slow-grown in Nordic forests, heat-treated at around 212°C in a controlled, oxygen-free atmosphere. The process — no chemicals involved — improves the timber's durability to Class 2 and removes the moisture and resins that cause movement, producing a dimensionally stable exterior cladding board with significantly reduced swelling and shrinkage.

Slow Nordic growth gives the pine a tight, even grain, and thermal modification turns it a rich, uniform caramel-brown throughout the board — not just at the surface. Left uncoated, it weathers naturally to silver-grey; a UV-protective coating maintains the brown tone. Small, sound knots give it a more characterful appearance than clear-grade species like Thermo-Ayous.

Sourced from sustainably managed Scandinavian forests, imported and machined in-house, Thermo-Nordic Pine is available in a range of profiles for cladding and fencing projects of any scale — a cost-effective alternative to Cedar and tropical hardwoods.
