Wood briquettes are the superior wood fuel, offering a hot, clean and long-lasting burn – but these high levels of performance don't happen by accident.
They are made from highly-compressed and compacted by-products from machining operations: off-cuts of high-quality rough sawn timber boards, saw dust, and chippings processed in our factory.
Let's take a closer look behind the scenes at our site near Ripon, North Yorkshire to see what goes into creating Lava Logs, our wood briquettes.
The rough sawn boards are trimmed to size using a state of the art ‘ripping’ saw, cutting each board to the desired width ready for the next stage in the factory process.
The off cuts from each board are separated out and fed into the briquetting line. They are initially chopped up into manageable pieces before being fed into the chipper.
As well as the off cuts, sawdust and wood chippings are carefully extracted at each stage of the process in our factory and fed into the briquetting line. Nothing goes to waste.
Once all off cuts, sawdust and chippings have been chipped to the required size, the material is fed through a series of ducting into a large hopper and filtered into the briquetting machine.
Here, all of the natural material is compressed and compacted into shape using a high-powered ram. No binding agents are used at any point in the process – our Lava Logs are 100% natural material.
The compacted material is fed along a 30m cooling line directly into cutting and packaging facility. Here, using a series of laser guides and high-powered cutting saw, each briquette is cut to size before being carefully packaged.
