What is Accoya wood?
Accoya is a modified wood product. It is 'acetylated' Radiata pine – acetylation is a groundbreaking patented process that alters the wood's cellular structure to make it more durable, stable and rot resistant.
Wood's interaction with moisture is the biggest factor affecting its outdoor longevity. The acetylation process involves using acetic anhydride to increase moisture-resistant acetyl groups and reduce water-attracting hydroxyl groups in the wood.
Accoya is an 'ultra high-performance sustainable' wood product, carrying a 50-year warranty. It has popular applications across cladding, decking, doors and windows.
It boasts the same versatile, clean pale yellow to golden-brown colour as Radiata pine. After around 10 months’ exposure, it will naturally silver if no further treatment is applied.
