Established in the 17th century, the Hudswell Community Charity supports the small, picturesque village of Hudswell, just outside Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The 350-year-old charity owns and manages several properties. These are rented by people with a connection to Hudswell who would otherwise struggle to afford a home in the area.
Their latest project? Three affordable and sustainable homes completed with Thermo-Ayous cladding.

Working with Annie Sumner from the charity, Thermo-Ayous in a vertical shadow gap profile (DTC15) was chosen for its contemporary look.
In its natural state, this wood presents a light-to-medium brown tone with minimal knots, offering a warm and clean appearance.

Over time, and with exposure to sunlight, the timber will naturally weather, gradually changing in colour to a consistent silver to light grey.
Many project planners embrace this change as part of the timber’s natural ageing cycle. The silvering is not a sign of decay.

As mentioned, the profile of choice for all three units was our DTC15 – vertical shadow gap.
It is designed so that, when installed, each board fits together with a consistent 10mm square gap. This deliberate spacing produces a clean shadow line effect, giving the façade a strong architectural detail.
As the position of the sun changes, the depth and angle of the shadows also shift, creating subtle variation and visual interest across the surface.

The Hudswell Community Charity plays a vital role in keeping local people connected to their village by providing affordable homes for families – this latest project has been praised by local MP, Rishi Sunak.
The charity continues to make a fantastic contribution to the local community and we're delighted to have played our part in it. We wish them every continued success!
