Earlier this year, the Duffield Timber team flew out to Hannover to visit LIGNA 2017, a biannual wood machinery show exhibiting the world’s most up to date and technologically advanced machinery available on the market.
Though we only attended one day of the show, it was a hectic one to say the least! The incredible variety of machines on display ranged from wood coating systems to wood pellet boilers, which truly conveyed the show’s key message: “Making More Out of Wood”.
Though there was a huge amount of wood machinery on show, the ones that caught our eye were those we would find useful in our mill such as moulding machines, ripping lines, crosscut saws and bandsaws. With a large proportion of our machines being made by Weinig, we just had to visit their stand to have a look at what they had to offer. They had an impressive amount of machinery on display, from Powermat’s to FlexiRip’s. We also visited the team representing Salvador Woodworking Machinery as we have recently purchased our new optimising cross cut saw from them. Other stands also had great pieces of equipment to offer: Leadermac’s new range of moulders, complete with new operating software and automatic set-up feature, seem to have really added a bit of competition to the market. Our highlight of the show was seeing standout machines from Weinig Raimann and Mereen Johnson and we can’t wait to see what will be hitting the market next over the coming years.
The trip has indeed open our minds here at Duffield into the sheer amount of wood-related machinery that is available on the market and what machines we could add to our saw mill to improve efficiency and quality. We may even be looking to add to our mill machinery in the coming year which we’re incredibly excited about. Overall it was an extremely educational trip, despite us possibly coming back with more questions after the show than before it!
