Much of our focus this year has been on sourcing high-quality and sustainable timber, dedicating time to meeting new and existing suppliers across Europe and Africa.

Pioneering Projects

St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derbyshire was a ground breaking carbon net-zero government pilot scheme, designed to promote mental and physical health. As the UK’s first biophilic primary school, it features our stunning Western Red Cedar cladding, protected with an innovative, clear fire retardant treatment. We’re proud to have contributed to a fantastic, collaborative and innovative project.

Farewell

After 35 years in the timber trade, our Managing Director, Duncan Lees, retired. Duncan’s vision and guidance helped shape Duffields, leaving a lasting legacy.

As he enjoys a well-earned retirement, we thank him for his invaluable contributions and wish him happiness (and successful fishing) in the years ahead.

The Next Generation

Following Duncan’s departure, Sam and Joe Duffield took the helm of the family business, with Joe stepping into the role of Managing Director. Their leadership marked the start of a new chapter for Duffields, blending fresh energy, innovation and a commitment to the values that have stood for over 65 years. Exciting times ahead.

Refurbishments

We’ve seen big changes on site this year, none more so than in our shop – affectionately named the ‘hobby hall’. PSE boards, live edge boards, woodturning blanks, shortboards... the list goes on.

Looking Ahead to 2025

• We continue our search for the highest quality timber, with a focus on ash, white oak, maple, black walnut and tulipwood as we visit Canada and the US.
• There are brand new cladding products on the horizon, coming to the market as early as next spring.
• New Website features coming soon, bringing new insight and information.
• Lots of exciting projects and collaborative work to inform and inspire.
