Duffield Timber supplied planed-all-round (PAR) Thermo-Ayous boards with rounded edges, in 18mm and 20mm thicknesses, for the interior ceilings of this contemporary home in Hampshire. The clear-grade, virtually knot-free timber runs continuously through the living spaces.
The client wanted a natural, refined finish for the ceilings of this contemporary home in Hampshire, and chose Thermo-Ayous from Duffield Timber.

The boards line the ceilings of the main living spaces, running from room to room so the ceilings read as one continuous surface and link the spaces together.
Thermo-Ayous is ayous (Triplochiton scleroxylon), a West and Central African hardwood, thermally modified with heat in a controlled atmosphere and no chemicals. The result is a clear-grade, virtually knot-free board with a warm, even colour, improved dimensional stability and Durability Class 1.

The boards were supplied planed all round (PAR) in 18mm and 20mm thicknesses , with machine-rounded edges for a softer, contemporary finish.
Indoors, stability matters more than weather resistance. Thermally modified boards move less as temperature and humidity change through the seasons, which helps a long run of ceiling boards stay straight and evenly spaced. At around 400kg/m³, Thermo-Ayous is also light for a hardwood, which helps when every board is fixed overhead.
